Kay Strom's Second-Half Adventure

Publishers, publicists and even authors occasionally send me books to review.  Many of them have little or nothing to do with defying gravity, so I simply pass them along.  But I recently received a slim, beautiful volume by Kay Marshall Strom titled The Second-Half Adventure:  Don't Just Retire--Use Your Time, Skills & Resources to Change the World, which fits right in with the topic of this blog.

When I describe Strom's book as beautiful, I’m not just referring to its attractive, eye-catching design.  What I'm really saying is that it’s a small book with a big heart.  Once I got past its overtly Christian slant (I’m not religious), I found a tremendous amount of value and inspiration between its covers, and I presume others will, too.

Written in partnership with the Finishers Project, an organization dedicated to providing information about missionary opportunities around the world, Strom’s book includes stories of people who have embarked on short-and-long term ministries in the second-half of their lives; a plethora of tools and exercises to help others analyze their skills and passions and figure out how to use their expertise to make a difference; and an appendix detailing specifics about all the organizations referred to between its covers.

Strom’s message is simple:  “Whoever you are, whatever your skills, wherever your life road has taken you, you can use what you have gained to help change the world   There is work to be done, and there is a place for you.”

  3. Even though I am not of that generation, I was born to parents of it. Thus it caught my eye and so I thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I did browse over the rest of your blog and you have quite a way with words. I wish you the best of luck with your book!
