Striving for Excellence

A friend sent me this quote from management guru Tom Peters--a fitting epilogue to the Beijing Olympics:

"Excellence can be obtained if you:
care more than others think is wise;
risk more than others think is safe;
dream more than others think is practical;
expect more than others think is possible."

  1. Hello!

    Excellent post! Very inspirational!

    I would like to add one more line:
    WORK MORE THAN OTHERS THINK IS GOOD.

    Have a good day!

  2. I agree that hard work should be lauded, Joseph. No one gets anywhere--at least anywhere that's truly satisfying to be--without it. And it seems to me that the person doing the work should rightly be the final arbiter as to what is too little or too much. But if others feel that a loved one is working too much, perhaps they speak with truth and kindness. As I say again and again on this blog, time is not something to be squandered. When all is said and done, what is the legacy you hope to leave behind? That's the question.

    So...if I were to add your line to the original version, I would amend it as follows: "Work harder than others think is wise." Do you see the distinction?
