Learning from Carole King (from my journal)

Every week, it seems, I receive letters from people who have been touched by my book, yet rarely do I sit back and savor the sweet fruits of my labor. I'm always reaching for the next papaya.

I thought about this the other night while I was watching Carole King being interviewed on some TV show. Asked how it felt to have peaked so young (her Tapesty album was a #1 hit for 15 weeks in 1971 and remained on the charts for six years), she said that she doesn't view her life that way. She’s enormously grateful to have made an impact. Period. People come up to her and say, "I loved Tapestry. It changed my life. ...But I suppose you've heard that before." Each time this happens, she thinks to herself, "Yes, but I've never heard it from you!"

What a lovely perspective!
