Quote of the Day

". . . [E]verything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms--to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." --Psychiatrist Viktor E. Frankl, who suffered unspeakable horrors in Nazi death camps, from his 1946 book Man's Search for Meaning

  1. The book by Victor Frankl is one of my favorite books.

I also use his story in the presentations I give.

Interestingly, today I am about to start prepping for a presentation next week. This is a perfect quote to include and possibly use as the theme of the talk. Thanks for reminding me, Prill.

  2. Wonderful, Allyn. Frankl's book is one of my favorites as well. I first read it in a class at Georgetown and have kept it close at hand ever since.

  3. Note: I deleted my previous attempt at this comment b/c it had some grammar errors. (I was typing too fast.) Here's another try:

Liz & Barbara-- Several years ago my son Ev had a wonderful second grade teacher who introduced him to the Impressionists and all sorts of other wonderful artists. (This was at a public school in Vienna, VA.) She even took the class to the National Gallery of Art. The kids picked up on her enthusiasm and were enthralled. Ev even asked me to buy fine art posters to decorate his bedroom. As you said, Liz, art opens kids up to "an enormous and rich world."
